After 14 seasons and over 1,700 episodes, MTV has cancelled the popular clip show Ridiculousness, according to Variety. The show, hosted by Rob Dyrdek, featured funny fail videos from the internet with commentary from Steelo Brim, Chanel West Coast, and guest comedians. It was a huge part of MTV’s daily schedule, often filling up to half the day with around 20 to 30 episodes. While reruns will still air and some previously filmed episodes will be shown through 2026, MTV won’t be making any new episodes.
The show’s cancellation comes after Paramount, MTV’s parent company, was sold to Skydance and Larry Ellison on August 7th. Since the sale, Ellison appointed Bari Weiss to lead CBS News, laid off around 2,000 employees, and now ended a long-running MTV staple. According to Variety, the new owners want MTV to return to its roots with more innovative and diverse programming. Documents related to the show’s production company, Superjacket, revealed that Rob Dyrdek’s contract was set to increase from $32 million to $45 million by 2029. However, the shift in strategy also appears to prioritize lower production costs.
