The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently rated the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This has sparked speculation that a remastered version of the game is being developed and may be released in the near future, though there’s been no official confirmation.
Separate from all of this, there’s been talk about Red Dead Redemption II potentially coming to the new Switch 2 console, as well as updated versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Currently, the ESRB hasn’t rated the game for any of those platforms, though.
Red Dead Redemption’s ESRB rating includes a reference to zombies, hinting that the game might be re-released with the popular ‘Undead Nightmare’ expansion included.
Red Dead Redemption first appeared on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. It then became available on the Nintendo Switch in 2023 and on PC in 2024. The sequel, which tells a story that happens before the first game, was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018, and for PC in 2019.

Apparently, they’re working on bringing Red Dead Redemption 2 to the new Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the release could be as early as 2025! Plus, there’s talk of a remastered Grand Theft Auto 4 potentially dropping this year. I’m really hoping they bundle both the original Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead 2 together in these new versions, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.
Take-Two, the company behind Rockstar Games, has announced plans to release eight updated versions of older games by March 31, 2028. These updates will include remasters and ports – improved versions of games for new platforms. While only four projects have been officially confirmed, rumors suggest that re-releases of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 might be among them.
The highly anticipated release of GTA 6 has been pushed back once more, and is now expected in November 2026.
