Recently, someone recreated aspects of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3 within Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing players to experience a bit of Snake’s adventure in a Western setting. That mod was interesting-something fans of unique modifications would likely enjoy. But this new project is on a completely different level. We would only recommend the work of this creator to those with an extremely high tolerance for difficulty.
Rockstar Games created RDR2 with the intention of minimizing player guilt when defeating enemies – generally, you’ll be fighting bandits, unfriendly settlers, or people actively causing problems. A recent modification, made by streamer and modder Blurbs, forces you to see the “memories” of the character you take someone’s life. These can range from quick glimpses into an NPC’s past to strange or unsettling scenes that break the immersion of the Wild West.
The streamer built the game’s environments himself, but he asked his Twitch community to write the conversations. This collaboration led to a final result that was genuinely bizarre and occasionally disturbing. Want to know what that looks like? For instance, if you shoot someone, you might unexpectedly see flashbacks from their wedding day, and if you hunt a bear, you could discover that… it had a human child.
In a recent post on X, Blurbs stated that the alteration left people feeling extremely bad and suggested that allowing viewers to create scripts may have been an error.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), this mod isn’t available for download on NexusMods or similar websites. Therefore, if you were hoping to experience Red Dead Redemption 2 transformed into a psychological horror game, you’ll need to be patient for the time being.
The project gained considerable traction on Reddit. Many commenters expressed admiration for the creator’s cleverness, and some playfully suggested that Blurbs should patent this mechanic before larger game development studios take notice.
