The residents living in southern Germany initially believed that a mischievous night-time prankster was causing repeated doorbell ringings at their apartment complex. However, it wasn’t long before the police unveiled the true cause – a persistent slug.
The incident occurred in Schwabach, Bavaria, where residents were suddenly awakened after midnight by persistent ringing at their doors. Initially, the locals thought it was just a typical instance of youths playing the old trick called “ding-dong-ditch,” where children would ring a doorbell and quickly disappear.
Typically, the game doesn’t last long. However, on this occasion, the noise persisted, despite neighbors confirming with one another, leading them eventually to call the authorities, like the police.

Teenage prankster turns out to be slimy slug
Upon reaching the German apartment complex, two officers discovered no pranksters hiding around. Strangely enough, the motion sensor at the entry didn’t trigger, yet the noise persisted uninterrupted. It was only upon a thorough examination that both residents and police spotted a slime trail on the metal panel. This trail led them to the mystery solver – a slippery snail that had been going up and down the doorbell plate.
A resident shared with German tabloid Bild that the continuous noise within the building was unsettling everyone. “It persistently rang, even during phone calls, and no one was visible at the door. This made us quite anxious, so we chose to contact the authorities,” she elaborated.
Officials later verified that the creature was safely relocated with no injuries involved. With a bit of humor, law enforcement announced that the snail had been “made aware of its limits, shown the rules of its domain, and deposited onto a neighboring patch of turf.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that sentence like this: “The weird finding finally solved the puzzle, and it turned out we didn’t have a joker terrorizing our neighborhood-just an unlucky slug who decided to make his grand appearance at an inconvenient time.
