Pony rescued after getting completely stuck inside giant tractor tire

RSPCA officers rescued a pony that got stuck inside a large tractor tire in a field in Staffordshire, England.

People in the area noticed a pony stuck and called the RSPCA. Animal Rescue Officer Nicola Riley responded and found the tired pony wedged tightly in a tire opening – about the size of a small suitcase – and unable to get out on its own.

Honestly, getting the little pony out was way harder than we expected, all because of this massive tire! It was a huge Michelin Agribib, one of those really heavy-duty ones for tractors, and weighed almost 200 pounds! The pony got super dirty and its skin was pretty irritated, but thankfully it was breathing normally the whole time, which was a huge relief.

Slow and steady does the job

As reported by Horse & Hound, Riley carefully freed the pony by gently moving its front feet, then working its shoulder loose before finally releasing its neck and front. Nearby residents assisted by lifting a heavy tire that was trapping the animal while she worked to free it.

Astonishingly, the pony did not need to be sedated at any point during the rescue.

It was such a tricky rescue! The poor pony was totally stuck, wedged right up against the tire, and you could just tell he was really frightened and uncomfortable. Luckily, everyone worked together like a dream, and we got him out safely without him getting hurt at all. It was a huge relief!

After being freed, the pony was unsteady at first and briefly stood with its hind legs still caught in the tire before completely stepping out. Riley stayed for about an hour to make sure the pony was okay. Once he was sure the pony wasn’t hurt, Riley let him go back to eating with the other horse.

He quickly went back to eating and moving around the field. It could have been much worse, though, so I’m very thankful to the people who stopped to offer assistance, Riley said.

The tire was removed from the paddock following the rescue to prevent any future incidents.

This rescue happened during a string of strange animal events in the UK lately. Earlier in 2026, a capybara named Samba escaped from Marwell Zoo in Hampshire shortly after arriving, leading to a search that included nets, a tranquilizer gun, and several mistaken sightings of deer.
