TL;DR

Polkadot introduced the Join-Accumulate Machine (JAM) protocol that merges features of Polkadot and Ethereum, aiming to improve blockchain efficiency and scalability, with governance pending community approval.
Noteworthy developments for the protocol include an upgrade to the Acala Network and discussions about a potential $8.8 million sponsorship deal with Inter Miami CF.

Polkadot’s Progress as of Late

Recently, Polkadot (DOT) and its blockchain protocol have garnered significant interest from industry players due to various upcoming or imminent advancements.

Perhaps the most important advancement is the release of the Join-Accumulate Machine (JAM) Gray Paper: a protocol that combines elements of Polkadot and Ethereum.

The JAM project offers a worldwide platform for creating permissionless objects, similar to the smart contract environment Ethereum introduced. This setup includes secure side computations that can be processed in parallel across a network of scalable nodes, a concept first proposed by Polkadot.

The protocol will offer a feature that caters to current parachains, allowing Substrate developers to carry on building blockchains using it. The statement clarifies that interacting with JAM can only be done through DOT tokens, and no new tokens will be generated.

It is important to note that the community must approve JAM via Polkadot’s on-chain, decentralized governance.

What About the Parachains?

Some of the top Polkadot parachains have also witnessed notable developments. Acala Network recently announced the Sinai Upgrade: an advancement designed to enhance the platform’s position as a liquidity layer in the Web3 space. The upgrade consists of three routes: liquidity track, infrastructure track, and aSEED track.

Around the 21st of this month, all parachains, including Moonbeam Network, halted producing new blocks for nearly an hour due to Polkadot’s runtime upgrade. However, Moonbeam Network’s team announced on the 21st of April that block production had been restarted and the network was operating normally once again.

Polkadot’s Possible Mega Collaboration

About a week ago, Nico Zini, who handles Partnership Marketing and Media Rights for Inter Miami CF, disclosed a potential sponsorship agreement worth $8.8 million with Polkadot. For those not in the know, David Beckham is one of the co-owners of this American football team, while its most renowned player is Lionel Messi, an Argentine soccer legend. [

This is not Polkadot’s first attempt to enter the sports world. In 2022, it aimed to become FC Barcelona’s official jersey sponsor. The Catalan club, though, chose Spotify over the blockchain protocol.
