The Los Angeles Police Department is now reportedly addressing the recent online trend of people trying to quickly complete challenges related to the Church of Scientology.
Many people have been curious about what happens inside Scientology buildings, and recently, more people—particularly in Los Angeles—have been trying to find out more.
Recently, a new trend emerged on TikTok involving the Scientology building. After some people tried camping out there, users began ‘speedrunning’ – quickly running past security and attempting to get as far inside as possible with each try.
This trend has become so popular that people started a collaborative online project to map the interiors seen in the videos. Now, though, police have taken notice.
Scientology speed runners ‘detained’ by police
TMZ reports that the LAPD responded to a call about fifty people rushing into a location. However, the report states the actual number was only seven, and they had already left before the police arrived.
On April 26th, police reported detaining several young people after they ran inside the building.
Film The Police LA, a YouTuber, recorded the incident and claimed that the Church of Scientology falsely reported them to authorities, leading to their detention.
According to a post on X, representatives from Scientology claimed someone attempted to break into their recruiting building, but stated the individuals didn’t even approach that side of the street. After being questioned, Scientology said the people looked like those who had broken in the previous day, but this turned out to be incorrect.
Recent videos show some Scientologists are now trying to prevent groups from approaching their facilities, seemingly in preparation for a challenge similar to ‘speedruns’ – quickly shutting doors when people get close.
Despite increased efforts to keep people out, some TikTok users are still managing to enter the building and share videos of what they find inside.
It also remains to be seen as to how long the trend will carry on.
