A special Pokémon exhibit focused on fossils, originally created in Japan, is making its debut in the United States. This traveling show combines the popular Pokémon franchise with real paleontology.
I’m so excited! The Field Museum here in Chicago just announced they’re bringing the Pokemon Fossil Exhibition to us! It’s going to be open from May 22, 2026, to April 11, 2027. Apparently, it started in Japan back in 2021, and it’s this really cool mix of Pokemon that look like fossils and actual prehistoric fossils – it sounds amazing!
I’ve heard this exhibit has been huge in Japan, traveling all over and getting tons of people excited about both the science behind the series and its history. I’m really stoked because it’s finally coming to the US – it’s the first time it’s ever left Japan, which is awesome!

Exhibit details confirmed by the Field Museum
The Field Museum is hosting an exhibit where life-size Pokémon fossil skeletons will be displayed next to the real fossils that inspired them. For example, visitors can see Aerodactyl alongside pterosaur fossils, Tyrantrum with Tyrannosaurus rex remains, Bastiodon with ceratopsian fossils, and Omanyte with ammonites. The exhibit also includes information about how fossils are formed, what causes extinction, and how scientists piece together the lives of ancient creatures.
I’m so excited about the new museum exhibit! They’re taking Pokemon like fossils – the ones that could be real – and imagining what they’d actually be like if they existed. They’re using real science to do it, comparing them to animals we know. It’s not just displays, though! They’ll have cool artwork, make it look like a real dig site, and even have areas where kids can learn and get hands-on. It sounds amazing!
Okay, so I just heard the Pokemon Fossil Museum is coming to Chicago for almost a whole year, which is awesome! It’s gonna be part of a bigger world tour, apparently. They haven’t announced ticket info yet, but they said they’ll share more details as we get closer to the opening date. I’m definitely keeping an eye out for that!
