A flight at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was held up when a large group of bees landed on one of the plane’s engines. Crews had to carefully remove the bees before the flight could take off.
Passengers filmed the bees inside the aircraft, and airport staff, along with beekeepers, were called in to handle the situation safely. Video footage shows workers in bright vests gently removing the bees from the engine and putting them into a box.
After about an hour’s delay, the plane was finally allowed to take off and completed its flight without any more problems.
Bees swarm plane engine forcing delay
A video posted on YouTube by ABC7 on April 5th shows a large swarm of bees gathering around the engine while workers tried to safely remove them.
UPI reports the bees built their hive right on the turbine, preventing maintenance crews from working until the issue was resolved. A beekeeper was brought in to carefully remove the bees and relocate them away from the plane.
The cause of the swarm remains unknown.
Bees disrupting everyday activities isn’t new. Back in 2025, a Canadian beekeeper reported a swarm of thousands of bees surrounded their store, which they jokingly called a “robbery attempt.”
