An ex-Air Canada pilot is facing charges for reportedly flying hundreds of passenger flights as a captain for almost 20 years without the necessary license.
Geoffrey Wall, a 59-year-old man from Ontario, is facing charges after police say he used fake qualifications to get a captain’s position with a regional airline in 2009. Investigators state that he continued to fly planes for 16 years before the fraudulent credentials were found during a standard document check in 2025.
Air Canada took Wall off duty right away when they found the issues and immediately informed Transport Canada about it.
Police allege Wall had been working for Air Canada since 1998 and spent the last 17 years operating flights as pilot-in-command without holding an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), which is required under Canadian regulations for captains of large commercial aircraft.
Investigators say Wall flew approximately 900 domestic and international flights during that period and earned millions of dollars in salary while allegedly misrepresenting his qualifications.
A regular check revealed problems with the pilot’s license, leading to suspicions of fraud. Transport Canada began investigating and then handed the case over to Peel Regional Police. The police obtained a warrant to examine the license more closely.
Police allege the document was forged.
Air Canada says passenger safety was never at risk
Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich compared the allegations to a licensed family doctor performing brain surgery without the required qualifications.
Milinovich explained that it’s like a general practitioner attempting a highly specialized surgery, such as brain surgery, in a standard office setting.
Despite the allegations, Air Canada said passenger safety was never compromised because Wall held a valid commercial pilot licence and successfully completed the airline’s recurring training and competency checks every six months.

Air Canada stated they proactively informed Transport Canada about the issue and are treating it as a top priority.
The airline also said it conducted an audit of its pilot workforce following the discovery and found no other compliance issues.
Police noted that long-running fraud cases are not uncommon, with suspects often becoming skilled at concealing their actions for years before being caught.
Fraud can often go undetected for a long time,” Milinovich explained. “But eventually, it always comes to light, and that’s when our team steps in.
Wall was charged on June 1 with seven offences, including fraud, forgery, and possession of a counterfeit mark. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 29.
The allegations come just days after another pilot made headlines online for very different reasons.
On June 2, a pilot who won a private jet in a MrBeast video was arrested after authorities allegedly discovered $3.6 million worth of cocaine hidden aboard an aircraft, prompting widespread discussion across social media about aviation-related scandals.
