Perfect Dark Star Reacts To The Game’s Cancellation

Alix Wilton-Regan is now the voice of Lara Croft in the upcoming games, taking over from Camila Luddington. However, she recently expressed concerns that this opportunity might not last, especially after the recent cancellation of the Perfect Dark reboot, a game she was also supposed to star in.

Kimberly O’Funnel, known as Wilton-Regan, shared with TheGamer that she was simultaneously working on her roles as Joanna Dark in Perfect Dark and Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider games. She described the experience as “wonderful and genuinely one of the most creatively exciting times of my life.”

She admitted she was, and continues to be, worried about the future of Tomb Raider, especially after Perfect Dark was canceled. She felt a huge sense of relief at still having the Lara Croft character, but also a real fear of losing her. That fear hasn’t gone away.

Wilton-Regan recently discussed the cancellation of Perfect Dark and the closing of its developer, The Initiative, sharing her thoughts and experiences with what led to those decisions.

Wilton-Regan said they were just as shocked and upset as everyone else when the funding was cut and the studio shut down. They hadn’t anticipated it at all and were completely caught off guard by the news.

Before Microsoft canceled the game in July 2025, she filmed scenes for Perfect Dark throughout 2023, 2024, and into 2025.

As far as I knew, we’d made significant progress – I’d already written complete chapters building out this world. She also said Microsoft seemed very pleased with the work our team at The Initiative had completed so far.

Take-Two, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, reportedly explored buying Perfect Dark to help ensure the game continued development, but those discussions ultimately didn’t lead to an agreement.

“That was the day I was really sad because that was the day I lost hope,” Wilton-Regan said.

Fans of the recent Tomb Raider games have two new titles to look forward to: a remake of the original, called Legacy of Atlantis, is scheduled for 2026, and a completely new game, Catalyst, will follow in 2027.
