As a huge Michael Jackson fan, I was really glad to hear that Paris Jackson won a big part of her fight with the people handling her father’s estate. Apparently, the judge ruled that John Branca and John McClain have to pay back $625,000 they took as bonuses for other law firms. Plus, Paris will get her legal fees covered too! Her spokesperson told People that after years of struggle, the Jackson family is finally getting the openness and responsibility Paris has been pushing for, which is great news.
Lawyers for the estate told People magazine that while they disagree with the court’s decision, they respect it and will proceed as planned. They explained that the ruling wasn’t unexpected, as the court has previously approved similar bonus payments to other lawyers working on the case. The estate’s executors have always understood that all legal fees need court approval and have consistently required outside lawyers to return any funds not approved. They also confirmed that none of the $625,000 in question went to John Branca or John McCain.
Paris Jackson is publicly disputing how John Branca and John McCain have managed her father Michael Jackson’s estate. She alleges they’ve misused funds without being open about where the money is going. A representative for Jackson stated the estate should support the family, not fund personal lifestyles, referencing Branca’s depiction in the recent film Michael. Jackson has opposed the film since seeing an early version. She explained that while some fans will enjoy it, a significant portion caters to those who still hold onto a romanticized view of her father, and it prioritizes pleasing that specific audience.
