After 15 seasons, Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles ended in 2021, suggesting Bravo is moving away from real estate TV. The genre has thrived on Netflix, though, starting with Selling Sunset. This success led to more real estate shows on the platform, including Mauricio Umansky (from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) joining Buying Beverly Hills, and Ryan Serhant’s Owning Manhattan launching in 2024. Serhant’s show gives viewers an inside look at his growing real estate firm, and he believes it’s remarkably genuine. “Often, reality TV makes you question what’s real,” he explains. “But our shows are uncomfortably honest.” He even worried during the second season of Owning Manhattan that the show lacked a clear antagonist, until he realized, “I’m the villain.”

Rob Cesternino’s extensive network within reality TV, combined with his well-known confidence about Survivor, instantly made him a key player – and a target – on this season of The Traitors, despite not having competed on a show in nearly two decades. His quick elimination was a blow to his dedicated fanbase at RHAP, but Cesternino is still positive about his experience in Scotland and proud of popularizing the term ‘Survivor superfan’.

It’s a source of national pride for South Korea. At Netflix, Yoo is responsible for a growing collection of unscripted shows that are becoming increasingly important to the platform’s worldwide offerings. Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s head of nonfiction and sports, notes, “Korea has been incredibly successful for us in recent years, starting with shows like Singles Inferno. They’ve consistently delivered hits.”

In 2024, Ally Collins joined Dropout, a comedy streaming service led by Sam Reich. Dropout lets Collins cast a uniquely talented group of people – quirky, funny, and creative – that traditional TV channels and streaming services wouldn’t typically choose. She describes it as what she’d been looking for throughout her career in reality TV. At Dropout, she’s found performers who can transform a Dungeons & Dragons game into an improvised show for Dimension 20, share unusual stories on Crowd Control, and play hilariously strange characters – like aliens, zombies, and even sentient hot dogs – on Very Important People. It’s a completely new and exciting approach to unscripted casting, and Collins is perfectly suited to lead the way.
