As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really interested to hear Oscar Isaac talk about possibly coming back to the franchise. It’s been a while since the last sequel, and while Lucasfilm seems open to bringing back characters from that era, it sounds like it’s up to the actors themselves if they want to revisit those roles. It’s great they’re leaving that decision to them!
In a recent interview with GQ, Oscar Isaac, known for his role as Poe Dameron in Star Wars, said he’d be willing to return to that universe. However, he expressed reservations about working with Disney in its current state. He explained that he would reconsider if Disney could “figure it out” and avoid what he sees as a move toward “fascism.”
GQ noted that the interview happened two days after production of Jimmy Kimmel Live! was paused because of comments Kimmel made after the death of Charlie Kirk. They also confirmed that Kimmel returned to the air four days after the interview.
Isaac recently explained a comment he made back in 2020 about potentially returning to Star Wars. He’d jokingly told Deadline he’d be open to reprising his role as Poe Dameron “if I needed another house,” and he clarified that comment in a recent interview with GQ. He was simply making a lighthearted remark about needing a financial incentive to take on the role again.
I just finished reading a recent interview with the 46-year-old actor, and honestly, he came across pretty self-aware. He initially shrugged off a quote that’s been getting attention, saying it’s easy to just say things without much thought when you’re being interviewed. But then, he readily admitted he’d said something a little insensitive – a bit ‘dickish,’ as he put it. It was refreshing to see him own up to it so directly.
Although Lucasfilm and Disney haven’t said what’s next for Poe Dameron, they are moving forward with Rey’s story, with a new movie in development. Since there’s no release date for the Rey movie yet, it’s uncertain if other Star Wars actors, like Oscar Isaac, will be involved.
