The new One Piece anime, being made by WIT Studio, aims to address a major complaint fans had with the original show.
A complete remake of Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga is coming, beginning with the original East Blue story arc. The animation is being handled by WIT Studio, known for their work on acclaimed series like Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, and Vinland Saga.
This project aims to share the story with new audiences and offer a revitalized experience for existing fans, particularly focusing on the beginning chapters.
WIT Studio CEO George Wada explained that the upcoming remake will blend faithfulness to the original story with fresh elements. He noted that the show’s speed and animation style will be significantly updated in certain areas.
New One Piece show will fix pacing issues
Wada explained in an interview with Ai Show that while the original manga was fantastic and the anime was good, some aspects felt dated and didn’t quite meet today’s production quality.
The show got better as it went on, but the beginning wasn’t as strong. We plan to update it using current methods and reorganize it to attract a wider audience.
The One Piece anime has been running since 1999 and has over 1,000 episodes. However, it’s often been criticized for being slow-paced, especially in the beginning, where episodes would sometimes cover only a small part of the original manga story.
WIT Studio recognizes this issue and plans to fix it in the remake. Producer Wada has stated that the new version will be faster-paced and more concise than the original anime, focusing on a compelling story, enjoyable experience, and well-managed timing.
Okay, so the team behind the remake really wants everyone to know this isn’t about replacing the original game I love. They’re building on it, making it even better for people like me who’ve been playing for ages, and also making it super accessible for anyone new jumping in.
Wada stated their goal is to produce something on par with the quality and impact of One Piece, while also acknowledging and appreciating the effort Toei Animation has put into the series.
As the original One Piece anime continues and the manga nears its end, the upcoming remake is generating a lot of excitement, similar to the anticipation surrounding Netflix’s adaptation.
