One Piece collab turns Devil Fruits into real candy you can buy

A Japanese confectionery, with a history spanning three centuries, has created edible versions of the Devil Fruits from the popular anime One Piece. These handcrafted sweets are designed to look like the fruits that grant Luffy and his friends their extraordinary abilities.

This exciting partnership reimagines traditional Japanese sweets, called nerikiri, as incredibly detailed copies of iconic fruits from the series.

Nerikiri are traditional Japanese sweets crafted from sweet bean paste and rice flour. They’re prized for being incredibly soft and subtly sweet, and are often considered beautiful works of edible art rather than simple treats.

What’s really neat about this anime collaboration is that each edible ‘Devil Fruit’ sweet is carefully crafted by hand by Daitokuya Chokyu, a traditional candy maker with a history stretching back to 1716. So, you’re not just enjoying a tasty treat – you’re getting a piece of history with every bite!

You can finally eat real One Piece Devil Fruits

The food collaboration features treats inspired by several characters’ powers: Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit, Chopper’s Human-Human Fruit, Robin’s Flower-Flower Fruit, Trafalgar Law’s Op-Op Fruit, and Sabo’s Flame-Flame Fruit.

The complete collection features all five items and arrives in special One Piece packaging. It costs ¥4,980, which is about $31.

These Japanese sweets are made with a simple recipe: white bean paste, sugar, and glutinous rice flour. Each dessert is flavored to match a specific character – Luffy’s tastes like sweet red bean, Chopper’s like roasted green tea, Robin’s like matcha, Trafalgar Law’s like chocolate, and Sabo’s like cherry blossom.

These Japanese candies won’t give you superpowers, though managing to eat all five might be a feat in itself! If you’re ever in Japan, they’re definitely worth trying.

This year, anime fans have been excited about more than just food tie-ins. Umamusume surprised everyone by giving away actual gold coins, while Hatsune Miku gained attention with a glow-in-the-dark fishing rod. Pokémon also joined the fun with a remarkably realistic Quagsire table.
