Oatly, the popular oat drink company, has opened a unique “bike-thru” café in Amsterdam. Cyclists can order and pay for specialty coffee, then pick it up – all without having to dismount. It’s being called the first of its kind in the world.
This activation is located at Papaverhoek 24 and will be available until June 7, 2026. It includes a special bike lane that goes straight to the order counter, making it easy for cyclists to quickly pick up their drinks and go.
No car needed for quality coffee
This innovative concept offers a zero-emission alternative to the typical drive-thru experience. According to FONK Magazine, Christiaan van Doornik, Oatly’s Benelux general manager, explained that sustainable choices should feel natural and easy. He pointed out that Amsterdam already favors cycling, and this idea simply extends that preference.

This unique bike-thru doesn’t have a regular food menu. Instead, it showcases a different international coffee roaster each week. From May 15-22, coffee comes from Nomad in Barcelona, followed by April from Copenhagen (May 23-29). Wide Awake, an ethical roaster from Brussels, will be featured from May 30 to June 7, and Amsterdam’s Dak will join them for the final weekend, June 5-7.
Every week features a special drink, beginning with a miso caramel tiramisu latte. Then comes a shakerato with woodruff cold foam, and finally a surprise drink from Wide Awake. Throughout the promotion, you can also enjoy a soft serve made with Oatly and Oficina Hojicha.
ClassPass subscribers can now reserve quick, five-minute pickup times through the app, letting them bypass the line and get 35% off their purchase.
Bike-thru restaurants aren’t the only unusual drive-thru setups getting attention lately. Earlier this year, a Florida Chick-fil-A became an online sensation when a customer rode a horse through the drive-thru, leaving employees unsure of how to process the order.
