New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is launching a new series on Twitch where he’ll answer questions from viewers live.
Mamdani’s new show, “Talk with the People,” starts May 21st at 4 PM Eastern Time. You can watch it live on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and Bluesky, but the main livestream will be on Twitch, where you can also ask questions in the chat.
This latest action follows Mamdani’s established pattern of actively using social media, a strategy he first employed to gain recognition and win the New York mayoral election through online videos and digital campaigns.
Zohran Mamdani says Twitch stream will connect City Hall with younger audiences
Mamdani explained to Polygon that the stream aims to help local government connect directly with younger audiences online.
I’m really excited about the new ‘Talk with the People’ initiative! Councilmember Mamdani explained that it’s all about meeting New Yorkers where they are – on the platforms they already use – and having a direct conversation. It feels like City Hall is finally coming to us.
I’m excited to launch the first regular live stream from an elected official in our state. I’ll be answering questions directly from New Yorkers on Twitch, creating a new way for government to connect with the people, and especially reaching younger generations who haven’t always been heard.
5.21.26. 4:10PM. Live.

The show’s title comes from Fiorello La Guardia, a former mayor of New York City, and his 1940s radio show, “Talk to the People.” Like the show, the series aims to connect directly with the public, but uses modern technology to do so.
I just checked out Mamdani’s Twitch channel, and he’s already got over 400 followers – and that’s after only recently announcing it! It’s growing really fast, which is awesome to see.
He recently praised a team of young female students from elementary school who won the 2026 Mayor’s Cup Minecraft Tournament, a competition between different city neighborhoods.
