No Man’s Sky is introducing collectible creatures that players can breed, train, and battle – a system very similar to the popular game Pokémon.
No Man’s Sky had a difficult start, but the developers have been consistently improving it with free updates. The latest, called Xeno Arena, introduces a gameplay experience similar to Pokémon, all within the game’s expansive universe.
Once released, the game will let players collect creatures discovered on different planets, build teams with them, and then compete against other players in turn-based combat.
No Man’s Sky Xeno Arena adds Pokemon-style creature collecting
The new blog post explains that each pet in the game has a unique set of attacks and abilities, determined by its type and the environment it comes from. There are hundreds of different abilities possible, and you’ll often find that creatures on hot planets have powers related to heat.
As your team gains experience through battles, they can evolve and become stronger by unlocking new genetic traits. You’ll also encounter and compete against powerful alien trainers, and earn medals for your achievements.
Okay, so everyone’s immediately jumping to compare this new No Man’s Sky update to Pokémon, and honestly, it’s hard to blame them! I’ve seen tons of people on Twitter pointing out the similarities. It’s kinda funny, actually, that Hello Games dropped the news on April 8th – the same day the Pokémon Champions trailer came out. It feels a little intentional, right?
The official Palworld X account posted a teasing message – simply saying, “Hear me out a sec…” – which has led fans to speculate about a possible collaboration. Palworld is a game often compared to Pokemon, and its creator, Pocket Pair, is currently involved in a legal battle with Nintendo over patent issues.
We don’t have an exact release date for the Xeno Arena update yet, but it will be available as a free update when it launches.
