With the release of the new Nintendo console, the Switch is no longer the main focus, but Nintendo may still make it easier for people to buy it.
The Nintendo Switch is already one of the best-selling game consoles ever, second only to the PlayStation 2. With the upcoming Switch 2 showing strong early numbers, a recent report suggests it could become the best-selling console of all time within the next year.
As a huge Nintendo fan, I’m so excited to finally hear that the Switch is coming to India! It’s been a long wait, but it’s happening early next year – probably around February or March. With a population of almost 1.5 billion, India is a massive market, and it’s awesome that Nintendo is finally bringing official Switch consoles to the country. It’s a bit strange it’s taken until the Switch is almost ten years old, but honestly, I’m just thrilled they’re doing it!
The Nintendo Switch is expected to cost around ₹20,000, which is approximately $208. Currently, the price of Switch games in India is still unknown. Although Nintendo hasn’t officially sold products in India since the Wii and DS, the Switch has still found its way into the country, often through purchases from abroad or a grey market. With Nintendo’s official return to India, the Switch should become much easier to buy and more widely available.
As a huge Nintendo fan, I’m really hoping we’ll finally see the Switch officially launch in India! I think that could be the push it needs to become the best-selling console ever, finally beating the PlayStation 2. It’s funny, Sony just announced the PS2 has sold 160 million units – almost like they’re keeping track to stay ahead! The Switch is already at 156 million as of February, and launching in a huge market like India, while still selling well everywhere else, could be exactly what it needs to take the top spot. I’m really rooting for it!
It’s currently unclear if or when the Switch 2 will be officially released in India. Like the original Switch, Indian gamers are likely to obtain the new console through unofficial import channels. The recent price increase for the Switch 2 could also make an official Indian release more difficult, as the cost of electronics often delays new hardware launches in certain regions.
Nintendo hasn’t officially announced when the Switch might be released in India, but if reports of a 2027 launch are true, we’ll likely hear an official confirmation much sooner. Even though it will be almost ten years old by then, the Nintendo Switch continues to look like a successful console.
