Venom hasn’t danced his last dance after all.
So, while Tom Hardy’s run as Venom wrapped up earlier this year with The Last Dance, don’t think that’s the last you’ll see of the character! I’m hearing from The Hollywood Reporter that a new animated Venom movie is in the works, and – good news for fans – Hardy is still involved. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are set to direct and produce, which is exciting. It sounds like they’re going for a completely different take on the character, and I’m definitely curious to see what they come up with!
Sources say Sony Pictures Animation is starting a writer’s room to brainstorm ideas for a new animated movie. Tom Hardy is connected to the project, though it’s currently unknown whether he’ll be a producer, voice an actor, or play another role – he’s simply described as being “involved.”
I have to say, this directing pair really broke out with 2025’s Final Destination: Bloodlines. It was a massive hit, becoming the biggest film in that whole six-movie series. And now, Hollywood’s come calling again – they’ve been hired to write the script for Gremlins 3, which Chris Columbus is directing and Steven Spielberg’s producing. It’s a great gig, and I’m eager to see what they bring to that classic franchise.
Besides appearing in Hardy’s recent Marvel films, Venom was featured in the 2007 movie Spider-Man 3, with Topher Grace playing the role. Over the years, this Marvel villain has sometimes been portrayed as a hero, and he’s also been a recurring character in various Spider-Man animated series.
