PUBG: Battlegrounds is getting a new game called PUBG: Black Budget, which is a different style of shooter where you collect items and escape. The developers, Krafton and PUBG Studios, will be testing an early version of the game on PCs in December with a limited, closed alpha test.
PUBG: Black Budget is taking a new direction with a sci-fi and fantasy setting. The game takes place on the island of Coli, which is stuck in a time loop and threatened by a mysterious force called the Anomaly. Unlike traditional PUBG, this version will focus more on exploring the island and uncovering its secrets rather than constant fighting. Players will search for hidden technology while investigating SAPIENS, a secretive project. Gameplay will feature both player-versus-player combat and battles against the environment.
You can now sign up for the closed alpha test on Steam! The test will run for six days total, split into two periods. The first period is December 12th through the 14th, and the second will be December 19th through the 21st.
During the test, players can share their gameplay clips and videos. They’ll also have opportunities to get access keys through Twitch Drops happening during the event.
Krafton, the company behind PUBG, is aiming to transform the game into a broader platform similar to Roblox or Fortnite. They’ve also invested $70 million to focus heavily on artificial intelligence. Interestingly, while pursuing this AI direction, Krafton accepted resignations from some employees, and PUBG’s creator, Brendan Greene, publicly stated his dislike for AI, expressing satisfaction with the growing public concerns about it.
