Sean Robins, who produced the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, is now working on a new adaptation of a different popular video game series.
According to sources, Robins is working on a movie based on the popular horror video game, Finding Frankie. Steven C. Miller, known for directing Under Fire, will direct the film. Production companies 13 Films and So It Goes Entertainment are also involved. Miller will again collaborate with Under Fire writers Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert, who are writing the screenplay.
This new adaptation combines the suspenseful action of Squid Game with the eerie mood of Five Nights at Freddy’s.
SUPERLOU Games released the scary video game Finding Frankie a year ago, on October 25, 2024. It’s a survival-horror adventure where you use parkour to navigate a strange and glowing world featuring the game’s famous characters: Henry Hotline, Frankie, and Deputy Duck.
Producer Sean Robins described the film Finding Frankie as a thrilling and emotional story with a richly developed world, perfectly suited for the big screen. He stated that the team, including 13 Films, So It Goes, and director Steven C. Miller, is creating a special and moving survival story that will leave a lasting impression on audiences.
The creators of the game said a movie wasn’t something they’d ever planned for, but they are now thrilled about the possibility.
I recently heard some exciting news about Finding Frankie! The creators clearly felt this story and its characters were too good to stay confined to the gaming world – they really believe it deserves a cinematic experience. Apparently, both the people making the game and its passionate fanbase have been clamoring for more, wanting to know what happens next in this wild parkour competition. They’re teaming up with 13 Films, Sean Robins, Steven C. Miller, and So It Goes Entertainment to make a feature film, and honestly, I’m pretty hyped to see how it turns out!
Five Nights at Freddy’s Was a Massive Success
Okay, so Five Nights at Freddy’s has been a thing for a while now – way before anyone even heard of Finding Frankie! It already had a really dedicated fanbase, which is awesome. This year, Blumhouse and Universal decided to bring Scott Cawthon’s game series to the big screen, and honestly, while critics weren’t exactly raving about it, and some of the hardcore game fans had issues with it, it’s still a pretty big deal.
Despite receiving mostly negative reviews from critics (a 32% rating), audiences loved the movie Five Nights at Freddy’s, giving it an 86% approval rating. The film was a huge commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing horror movie of 2023 and the most profitable film ever made by Blumhouse. With a budget of just $20 million, it earned an impressive $297.1 million worldwide, even though it was released on the streaming service Peacock at the same time as its theatrical debut.
I’m happy to report Emma Tammi is back in the director’s chair for this installment! And thankfully, we get to see familiar faces again – Josh Hutcherson, known from The Hunger Games, Elizabeth Lail who you might recognize from You, Piper Rubio, and the rest of the cast all reprise their roles.
Finding Frankie doesn’t have a release date.
