Mixtape: Hardest Achievements/Trophies and How to Get Them

There’s a special satisfaction in fully completing a video game – whether it’s earning a tough achievement like a Platinum Trophy, or maxing out your GamerScore. We’ve all been there! If you’re looking for a more relaxed way to achieve 100% completion, a game like Mixtape might be just what you need.

I would have completely agreed with that, except for a few frustrating trophies or achievements. To be clear, I really enjoyed the game – and I think a lot of people did. But some of the achievements needed to fully complete it are just a little bit annoying.

If you’re curious about which Trophies and Achievements are the most challenging in Mixtape, I invite you to check out my list. I’ll quickly go over the toughest ones and explain how to unlock them without too much trouble.

8. Grunge Metal Alchemist

Yeah, I’d Order That Too, Slater

Chapter 8, ‘Ultimate Slushie,’ contains a Trophy or Achievement that you can’t realistically earn on your first playthrough. It requires knowledge you only gain later in the game, meaning you’ll need to unlock it on a subsequent playthrough or by replaying the chapter.

The “Grunge Metal Alchemist” trophy/achievement in Mixtape asks you to create Slater’s special slushie. You’ll find the recipe on a poster in his room. Feel free to make it during your first playthrough if you’d like!

You can make this treat using either Stacey’s or Slater’s slushies. Simply pour in about a quarter of each of these flavors: Blue Crush, Bubblegum, Lime, and Orange. After filling the cup, a trophy or achievement message will appear when the characters show off what they’ve made.

7. Well, Take a Look At You

American Ninja Stacey

Chapter 27, “The Run,” focuses on helping Stacey rescue Cassandra before her dad catches her. You’ll navigate a fast-paced freerunning sequence, and if you complete it perfectly without missing any jumps or slides, you’ll unlock the “Well, Take a Look At You” Trophy/Achievement.

Don’t worry about Stacey moving – she’ll run automatically. Your main focus is deciding when to jump or slide. Jumping is straightforward, but remember you can hold the button down to slide for a longer distance. The course isn’t too difficult overall, but here are a few tips to help you out.

The cars that Stacey briefly collides with on the road won’t count; they’re scripted, don’t worry.

It’s important to know when to use each prompt. If you notice a gap underneath an object – like a road barrier, broken fence, or construction digger – try to move your character under it.

When Stacey approaches the treehouse or attempts to jump the fence, make sure to time your jumps correctly. If Stacey stumbles or loses speed, you didn’t time it right. The trophy or achievement will unlock after you reach the gas station and the cutscene begins.

6. Cone Island, Baby

Just a Light Touch, Like You’re Kissing the Ground

Okay, so after you’re done exploring all the memories at Stacey’s house, the game moves on to a skateboarding section with Slater and Cassandra. And heads up – you have to knock over 10 traffic cones during this whole part to progress. It’s a little tricky, but super fun!

Three cones sit near the yellow dump truck, and another one is across from them by the school bus. Two more cones mark the entrance to the construction area, and a seventh cone is inside, right before the ledge where you and Stacey jump.

Okay, here’s a tip for the upcoming section: you’ll see traffic cones #8 and #9 when the camera switches to a bird’s-eye view as you drive down the winding road. They can be tricky to spot, so gently slow down by tilting the left analog stick back while you’re turning. The final cone is located right before the bridge in the parking area. Don’t worry if you hit a cone though – you can always restart the chapter and try again.

5. Woods Cabin Mini-Games

Time-Sensitive Chores

I’ve grouped these together because they all happen during a shared memory in Stacey and Slater’s story – specifically, when they’re remembering times at the old cabin. Here’s a look at the trophies or achievements involved:

  • Paint it, Black, If You Want: Paint the entire door in under 30 seconds.
  • Sofa King Fast: Get the couch in place within 30 seconds.
  • Leaves That Are Green: Clear the leaves in under 45 seconds.
  • From The Hip: Hit all the cans in under 30 seconds.

All the mini-games in this collection share a common challenge: you need to finish them within either 30 or 45 seconds to earn the trophies or achievements. While mastering them takes practice and a bit of experimentation, I’ve created a simple guide to help you complete each one successfully.

  • For the door painting mini-game, just use the roller and don’t switch the paint. The trick is to immediately stroke the roller from top to bottom and adequately position it side to side. With enough speed, you should be able to paint most of the door. Don’t worry about any small nooks that you miss; there’s a bit of wiggle room here from the game.
  • To transport the couch in 30 seconds, you’ve got a couple of routes to take, but the one I found easiest is to hitch it right and to the top (from where Stacey is), and set it down with Slater facing the screen. As soon as the square turns green, immediately drop it to complete the mini-game. Try not to bump into anything, or else you’re wasting precious seconds.

To quickly clear the leaf pile, what helped me was to immediately do a fully charged sweep from the middle of the pile and then go around doing quick sweeps on the other edges. Make sure no single speck of leaf is left within the circle’s edges.

  • Finally, From The Hip requires you to get ALL the bottles and cans shot down in 30 seconds. Position the can and bottles right above Stacey’s clutched fingers for easy pickings, and go from the middle to the right, then to the left, as I did.

4. Smooth Shopper

Through Hell and Back for Cassandra

This scene happens in Chapter 5, “Shopping Cart Bomb,” and involves Stacey and Slater trying to safely get a very drunk Cassandra from one place to another. The goal is simple, but it’s okay if you don’t get it right away. To earn the Smooth Shopper Trophy or Achievement, you need to complete the entire sequence without crashing the shopping cart.

Remember that you can keep the spinning cart centered by pressing L1 and R1 together.

It’s not too difficult overall, but the camera angle changes to an overhead view – similar to a TV news chase – later on, and that can make things a little harder. Just focus on staying stable and steering around any cars you see.

As you continue, you’ll come to a downhill path that leads to a pier. If you managed to keep the Shopping Cart intact, completing this section will unlock the Smooth Shopper Trophy or Achievement.

3. Front to Back

Only Because You Can’t Skip Cutscenes and Conversations

You earn the Front to Back Trophy/Achievement by fully exploring all the bedrooms and completing every conversation. This means interacting with every object and detail in the bedrooms of all three characters, plus the abandoned cabin. You also need to hear all of the dialogue options with both Slater and Cassandra each time you talk to them.

Fortunately, the game remembers who you’ve talked to and what you’ve discussed. When you’ve finished all available conversation options with someone or something, a dotted circle will appear around the interaction icon to let you know.

Okay, so if you restart a chapter, the good news is you do keep your progress towards this trophy! But the bad news is that the game resets the little indicator showing what you’ve interacted with, so you’ll have to go back and check everything again if you didn’t make sure you’d done it all the first time around. Honestly, a complete walkthrough is super helpful for this one. Don’t worry if it seems bugged – you can easily miss something small and it’ll prevent you from getting the trophy!

Here are a couple of tips that might help. When exploring rooms, be sure to look both high and low for interactive elements. For example, in Cassandra’s room, don’t miss checking the curtains. Also, when you meet Slater at the cabin, remember that he has several different conversation paths you can explore, so you might need to talk to him multiple times to see everything.

2. And It’s Outta There!

Get Those Quick Reflexes Going

In Chapter 14, the softball game begins with Stacey, but Cassandra quickly takes over to demonstrate her skill. To earn the “And It’s Outta There!” Trophy/Achievement in Mixtape, you need to hit a home run with every swing as Cassandra. Missing even one pitch will force you to restart the chapter.

This can be really frustrating if you don’t react quickly. The first ball aimed at Cassandra always goes straight for the center, but after that, the shots become unpredictable, heading towards any of the corners.

To hit a home run, time your swing so the outer circle lines up perfectly with the target circle. Even if you swing slightly early, you’ll likely still succeed because Cassandra’s swing animation has a small delay before it happens.

This trophy might take a few attempts, but don’t give up – it’s achievable. Unlike the next one, that is! As a longtime Yakuza fan and someone who’s spent a lot of time in the Batting Cage, I was able to get this one pretty easily.

1. Banned in Massachusetts

You Might Break Your Fingers

Chapter 28, “Coastal Cruise,” features a scenic drive with Camille Cole and her friends as the group heads to the party location. Similar to a previous skateboarding section where you could cause explosions with button presses, earning the “Banned in Massachusetts” trophy or achievement in this chapter requires successfully hitting every firework with Stacey.

You can also use the Square/X buttons on your controller.

Let me state this plainly: I consider this the most difficult trophy to earn simply because it’s so frustrating. It’s not a glitch or anything; you just need incredibly quick reflexes.

I highly suggest setting the default actions to your bumper buttons and then repeatedly pressing those buttons along with the face buttons during the whole sequence. It might seem silly, but it really helps ensure you don’t miss any of the special effects, particularly at the end when the cars are flying.

When you reach the part with the cars in the clouds, press the buttons as quickly as possible, even while the game is loading the next scene.

Okay, this part is tough, but totally doable if you put in the work! If you get stuck, just brace yourself, because Stacey will cheerfully tell you that there are two musicians named Brian (or Bryan!) in the band during the intro cutscenes. Trust me, you’ll probably have to watch those cutscenes a few times, just like I did, to get it right!
