A critically praised Mike Flanagan horror movie is coming to Netflix very soon.
Mike Flanagan’s thrilling movie that revitalized a popular series is now available on Netflix, a decade after its initial release. Flanagan is known for his highly praised horror projects, including TV shows like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, as well as the film Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck. He’s become a key horror creator for Netflix, with many of his shows debuting as originals on the platform. Though Flanagan now has a deal with Amazon Prime Video, a lot of his work still lives on Netflix.
Soon, Netflix will be adding Ouija: Origin of Evil to its lineup. This film is a prequel to the 2014 movie Ouija and tells the story of the Zander family. Alice Zander (Elizabeth Reaser) earns a living by pretending to be a psychic, but things take a dark turn when she acquires a Ouija board that’s possessed by a dangerous spirit. This spirit then begins to target her daughters, Lina (Annalise Basso) and Doris (Lulu Wilson). The movie is directed by Mike Flanagan, who also co-wrote the script with Jeff Howard.
The popular website What’s on Netflix has announced that the horror film Ouija: Origin of Evil will be available to stream on May 1st, just a week from today. Fans will soon be able to enjoy this critically acclaimed movie on one of the leading streaming services in the US. It will be added to a growing list of well-received projects created for Netflix by director Mike Flanagan, including the series The Fall of the House of Usher and the film adaptation of Gerald’s Game.
The main reason the new movie stands out is because the first Ouija film from 2014 was widely disliked. Critics gave it a dismal 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences weren’t much more impressed, giving it a 24%. This is a stark contrast to the positive reception of Flanagan’s sequel, Ouija: Origin of Evil. Reviewers have praised it as a genuinely scary and atmospheric horror film, and it currently boasts an 82% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
With his latest film now available on Netflix, Mike Flanagan has solidified his position as a leading horror director on the platform. He’s moved past the Ouija series and become a major figure in the horror genre, with several promising projects on the horizon. These include a new take on The Exorcist featuring Scarlett Johansson, a Carrie television series slated for release later this year, and Clayface, which will be the first horror film in the DC Universe.
Even though you can already watch Ouija: Origin of Evil on YouTube with ads, it’s now available on Netflix, which will make it easier to watch. This will also introduce the film to a larger audience, many of whom are likely already fans of director Mike Flanagan. It’s great news for this excellent horror movie, giving it a resurgence ten years after it first came out.
