Masters of the Universe Movie Gets an Unexpected He-Man Prequel

It’s been nearly 40 years since the last live-action Masters of the Universe movie, building a lot of excitement for the new film from Amazon MGM Studios. Even though a movie hasn’t been released in decades, He-Man has stayed popular thanks to toys, cartoons, and comics. Now, Dark Horse Comics is releasing a comic book that serves as a prequel to the upcoming film, expanding on the story and setting.

Masters of the Universe has existed in many different forms over time. Most versions take place on the planet Eternia, focusing on the fight for the magical power held within Castle Grayskull. The hero, He-Man, is actually Adam, the Prince of Eternia, in disguise. Opposing him is the evil sorcerer Skeletor, who leads the forces of darkness.

The latest Masters of the Universe movie offers a fresh take on the familiar story. Young Prince Adam is sent from the planet Eternia to Earth, where he matures and begins his quest for the powerful Sword of Power. Like the legend of King Arthur, he eventually returns to Eternia to protect his home as He-Man.

Master of the Universe: The Wings of Fate Explained

The Masters of the Universe comic, ‘The Wings of Fate,’ takes place between Adam’s departure from and return to Eternia. Following Skeletor’s attack on Eternos, a struggling refugee helps an injured falcon. To heal it, she must undertake a dangerous quest through the Mystic Mountains to the land of Avion.

Tim Sheridan, known for his work on the Masters of the Universe: Revolution cartoon, is writing this new series. The artwork will be done by Will Sliney, famous for his Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic. Israel Silva is providing the colors, and AndWorld Design is handling the lettering. The first issue of the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe comic, titled “The Wings of Fate,” will be available in comic stores on June 10, 2026.
