Masters Of The Universe 2 Plans Addressed By Director Ahead Of Long-Awaited Reboot’s Release

Even though Masters of the Universe isn’t out yet, the director is already thinking about ideas for a follow-up movie.

In an interview with ScreenRant, director Travis Knight shared that if the movie Masters of the Universe is successful, he’d like to explore the characters further in a sequel, especially Adam Glenn, who was introduced in this first film.

He wondered what the future held for Adam. Now that he was truly He-Man, where would his life go next, and what would that even look like?

Knight believes the core of the story lies in its relationships, and he’s interested in exploring how those connections develop if he gets to make another Masters of the Universe movie.

I really hope we get to see more stories in this universe – I’m a huge fan! The director’s said it’s up to us, the audience, though. They’re willing to keep going if people actually go to see the movies, but if there isn’t enough interest, they won’t force it. It’s simple as that: if we want more, we need to show it!

Looking ahead, there are definitely ideas for where the story could go. There were aspects of the movie we didn’t get to explore fully – deeper character development and storylines we’d love to pursue. I’m particularly curious about what happens to Adam now that he’s become He-Man, and what that means for his life. At its heart, this story is about relationships, and how those connections change and grow. Ultimately, whether we get to continue telling these stories depends on the audience. If people want more, we’d be thrilled to create it, but it’s out of our hands.

He’s still focused on getting the first movie, releasing in early June, right before considering a sequel.

He knew going into the project that he might only have one chance to make a Masters of the Universe movie, so he was determined to make it as good as possible.

Knight shared that he and the team gave the film their all, and he’s very proud of the result. He described it as an action movie with a lot of heart, telling a deeply emotional story that he was thrilled to bring to the screen.

I always treat each project like it’s a one-time opportunity. If this is the last movie we make in this series, I wanted to give it absolutely everything. I’m incredibly proud of the film – it’s fun, exciting, and full of heart. It tells a really emotional story, and I’m especially proud of the amazing work from both the crew and the actors. Everyone poured their hearts into this, and I think the final result really shows that.

Masters of the Universe is inspired by a popular franchise that started in the 1980s and has expanded into comics, television, films, video games, and toys. The story follows Adam Glenn, also known as He-Man, along with Teela and Man-at-Arms, as they fight to protect Eternia from the villainous Skeletor.

The first Masters of the Universe movie released in theaters was the 1985 animated film The Secret of the Sword. It was created by combining several episodes from the She-Ra: Princess of Power TV series.

In 1987, a live-action Masters of the Universe movie came out, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. However, it wasn’t successful, earning just $17 million in theaters. Critics didn’t like the film, and it received a low 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

After several years in the making, a new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is coming soon from Amazon MGM Studios and Knight. The film, starring Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, Alison Brie, Kristen Wiig, and Sasheer Zamata, will be released in less than three weeks.

Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters on Friday, June 5, 2026.
