Okay, let me tell you about the new Punisher story, “One Last Kill.” Be warned, there are spoilers ahead! As a fan of Frank Castle, I have to say this latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe really delivers. It’s a successful outing for the character, and I think fans will be pleased with where things go. It’s a strong addition to the MCU, and a compelling look at the anti-hero’s continued journey.
Now that The Punisher: One Last Kill is available on Disney+, viewers have given it a score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s a new high for any Punisher project. As of today, the special presentation has earned a 91% audience score.
| Netflix’s Punisher Season, & Punisher Movie Scores | Popcornmeter Score | Rotten Tomatoes Score |
|---|---|---|
| The Punisher: One Last Kill | 91% | 84% |
| The Punisher Season 1 | 88% | 68% |
| The Punisher Season 2 | 70% | 61% |
| The Punisher (2004) | 63% | 30% |
| Punisher: War Zone (2008) | 42% | 29% |
The latest installment, released in 2026 and following the events of The Punisher: One Last Kill, has received the best audience response of any Punisher adaptation. It’s even more popular than the Netflix Punisher series and the two previous live-action movies, all of which exist outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Keep in mind that the score could still change. As more people watch The Punisher: One Last Kill globally, more ratings are being added to Rotten Tomatoes, which could raise or lower the current number.
Jon Bernthal’s return as the Punisher has been well-received, first appearing in season one of Daredevil: Born Again in 2025. Although his character wasn’t in the second season of the Charlie Cox series, The Punisher: One Last Kill premiered just a week after the eighth episode of the Matt Murdock show.
ScreenRant’s review of The Punisher: One Last Kill particularly praised Jon Bernthal’s performance, noting he seemed perfectly cast as the character. The review also highlighted that the story delivers on expectations, showing Frank Castle moving forward with a new, though still action-packed, direction for the franchise.
In a recent cover story for ScreenRant about The Punisher: One Last Kill, Jon Bernthal discussed his experience working on the story as both an actor and co-writer, collaborating with director Reinaldo Marcus Green on the script. Bernthal, who has been involved with the MCU before, explained that the character’s appeal goes beyond the violence, saying, “People connect with this character because, at times, we all feel a sense of hopelessness.”
Jon Bernthal is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Punisher! He’ll be appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on July 31st. This marks the first time Marvel Studios has included the Punisher character in one of its movies.
The Punisher: One Last Kill is now streaming on Disney+.
