Now that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is underway, Marvel is launching a new comic book series featuring Daredevil. This is also the perfect moment to introduce a powerful new enemy who can actually defeat Matt Murdock in a fight.
As a big Daredevil fan, I was really excited for the new #1 issue, written by Stephanie Phillips and illustrated by Lee Garbett. It feels like a fresh start for Matt Murdock, which is great because the last series took him in a pretty different direction. He was dealing with supernatural stuff and honestly, felt disconnected from the gritty street-level crime and the characters we usually see him with. This new issue seems to be bringing him back to his roots, and I’m here for it!
In the new series, Matt begins a fresh start teaching law at Empire State University. He quickly makes an enemy among his colleagues. Meanwhile, Daredevil encounters a new foe who actually manages to defeat him in a fight. This loss is preceded by a chilling message: “Tell Matthew Murdock I’ve seen what’s coming for him… and he won’t survive!”
What do we know about the new Daredevil villain?
Early details about the new Daredevil series have revealed the villain’s name is Omen. However, descriptions of his plans are intentionally unclear, much like the cryptic predictions he makes. Omen claims to see the future, and this seems to be true – he’s able to anticipate and block Daredevil’s moves before they even happen.
We don’t know much else at this point, except that Matt Murdock didn’t recognize Omen’s voice. However, the story’s beginning hints that Omen could be linked to The Hand, a ninja group that Matt frequently fights. Omen’s initial prophecy includes the line, “The Hand that offers Peace may strike first,” and he follows it with a cryptic warning: “He who looks without sight will see too much.”
Daredevil #1 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
