The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will bring back beloved characters from the X-Men as they join the Avengers to fight Doctor Doom. As we move closer to 2026, fans are excited to see the Avengers take center stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe once again.
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which includes a look at the X-Men! It was shown to audiences before a screening of Avatar: Fire and Ash. You can watch it here:
The new trailer gives fans their first glimpse of Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart playing Magneto and Professor X. It also shows James Marsden reprising his role as Cyclops, sporting a costume that’s much closer to his comic book look.
The next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie will include Mystique and Nightcrawler, played again by Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming, who originally portrayed them in the X-Men films. Channing Tatum will return as Gambit, having first appeared as the character in the MCU with 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday highlighted the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, confirming his role in the upcoming Phase 6 film. The trailer showed that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter had a son together, and that Steve will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday featured Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, shown praying to Odin and expressing his desire to reunite with his daughter, Love. Following the release of footage from the X-Men, a fourth trailer is expected to premiere this week before showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Although principal photography for Avengers: Doomsday finished in September 2025, the cast will be filming some extra scenes this spring. Marvel Studios is planning to start filming Avengers: Secret Wars this summer, with a release date set for December 17, 2027, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Avengers: Doomsday opens on December 18.
