Markiplier’s Iron Lung finally gets a YouTube release date

Markiplier announced that fans will soon be able to watch Iron Lung at home, after it premiered in theaters in January.

Markiplier revealed at a Cannes panel, hosted by Deadline, that his film Iron Lung will debut exclusively on YouTube on May 31st. Viewers can buy it directly through the platform.

The filmmaker explained that putting the movie on YouTube felt right, considering their background creating content there.

“YouTube is my home,” he said. “I’m pretty loyal to it.”

The horror movie opened in theaters on January 30th and surprisingly earned over $50 million worldwide, even though it only cost about $4 million to make. Instead of a typical studio marketing push, a lot of the film’s promotion came from the popular online personality Markiplier and his audience.

Iron Lung adapts the viral horror game

The movie Iron Lung is inspired by the popular indie horror game of the same name, created by David Szymanski. The game quickly gained attention and became a hit online after it was released.

The story takes place in a future devastated by a mysterious event called “The Quiet Rapture.” It centers on a prisoner forced to navigate a vast ocean of blood from within a failing submarine.

Okay, so from what I’ve heard, this mission isn’t just about action – it’s seriously going to mess with your head too. It’s not just a physical struggle, it’s a total mind game, and it sounds terrifying!

Markiplier not only starred in the film, but also wrote, directed, and produced it. The movie also features Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock.

Markiplier personally released the movie in the US, and Piece of Magic Entertainment distributed it throughout Europe.

Markiplier shared during the discussion that he doesn’t intend to start another full-length project right away, playfully adding that he’d like to prioritize spending time with his wife first.

“Next year I’ll be working on something,” he said.
