Mariska Hargitay Addresses Law & Order: Organized Crime Cancellation

The show concluded after five seasons. Christopher Meloni was understandably upset by the news, and he wasn’t the only actor from the series who felt emotional about its ending.

Before starring in Organized Crime, Christopher Meloni acted alongside Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, where they played the popular characters Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. When Organized Crime was cancelled, Meloni posted on Instagram that it felt like a “great ride.” Now, Hargitay has told Extra that she also cried when she heard the news.

Mariska Hargitay Was Saddened by Organized Crime’s Cancellation

I was really moved by [Meloni’s post] and started crying right away,” Hargitay explained. “It was so touching, just as he described—he was so honest and open. It’s been an incredible journey, a beautiful and personal experience, and it really changed his life.

Hargitay admitted he was surprised by the news, acknowledging Chris’s success and talent as an actor. However, he sees it as the end of an era, a moment for reflection and taking stock of things – a significant milestone in life.

Now that Organized Crime has finished its run, Mariska Hargitay is optimistic that Benson and Stabler will share the screen again someday. She mentioned in an interview with Deadline that the continued fan love for their pairing could lead to Chris Meloni making guest appearances on Law & Order: SVU. However, she also acknowledged that Meloni’s busy schedule might make a reunion difficult.

Will Stabler and Benson Reunite Once Again?

Hargitay expressed optimism about a potential reunion with her former co-star. She shared that their on-screen relationship had become a significant part of popular culture, which she found very meaningful. She also noted that she and Chris are still very close friends, but whether they’ll be able to work together again depends on both of their busy schedules.

She shared her fondness for Chris and how much she enjoys working with him, expressing her willingness to collaborate on projects that reunite their characters. She believes they have the strongest connection when they’re paired together.

Fans of the show can rest easy knowing Mariska Hargitay will continue playing Olivia Benson, even with Christopher Meloni’s potential departure. NBC has renewed the series for a 28th season, meaning it will continue airing on the network for the foreseeable future. The show is currently finishing up its 27th season.

All five seasons of Law & Order: Organized Crime are streaming on Peacock.
