Police in South Korea have arrested a man in his 50s for repeatedly calling emergency services with false reports. Over the past two years, he made more than 58,000 bogus calls.
The Korea Herald reports that the suspect made a total of 58,307 calls. Of those, 51 were considered urgent – designated as “code 2” or higher – requiring immediate police response due to potential serious criminal activity.
The man was arrested on September 24th and is being investigated for interfering with official duties through deceptive practices. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison or a fine of approximately $7,000 (10 million won).

1,800+ calls in just four days
So, this guy… seriously, this guy was relentless. Back in May 2024, he apparently called the police 1,882 times in just four days! That’s like, a call every three minutes for almost four days straight – I can’t even imagine! Turns out, he was already in trouble for making fake reports, and this was his way of… protesting, I guess? It’s just insane.
Okay, so this guy was seriously messing with emergency services. He’d call up claiming all sorts of crazy stuff – one minute he was going to kill his brother, the next he said he *had* kidnapped him, then he’d claim *he* was the one being held hostage, but he’d change his story like, immediately. It was wild. I heard they asked him once how long he’d been ‘locked up’ and he straight-up said *ten years*! Can you believe that? It was all fake, of course.
According to police, the man confessed he made the calls whenever he was drunk and home alone, doing so out of habit. He’s been issued seven fines for making false reports since 2023, but authorities decided to seek an arrest warrant this time because he repeatedly ignored requests to appear in court.
