OpenAI announced on Saturday a new program for people in Malta. By completing a free AI training course, residents can gain a year of access to ChatGPT Plus.
The program will begin in May and grow as more people finish their training. OpenAI has also stated that Maltese citizens who live outside of Malta will also be able to participate.
Malta becomes first country to launch ChatGPT Plus training initiative
Malta’s Economy Minister, Silvio Schembri, told Reuters that the country wants to bring the benefits of artificial intelligence to everyone, making it easier to use in daily life.
Schembri explained that they’re taking a new idea and making it useful for families, students, and employees.

ChatGPT Plus is a paid subscription offered by OpenAI. Subscribers get access to the latest AI models, quicker response times, and extra features not available in the free version of ChatGPT. OpenAI has not revealed the details of its financial arrangement with Malta.
This agreement follows a growing trend of investment in AI learning and tools for everyone. Malta is leading the way, becoming the first nation to offer nationwide access to ChatGPT Plus as part of an AI training initiative.
