Okay, so this is kinda crazy – I was messing around in the Bank of Scotland, Lloyds, or Halifax app earlier, and apparently, there was a bug. For a little while, people were able to see other people’s bank transactions! It was a pretty serious glitch, and thankfully it didn’t last long, but yeah, that’s a bit of a privacy nightmare if you think about it.
Customers first reported the problem on March 12th. It seemed to last for more than an hour that morning.
Lloyds Banking Group, the owner of all three banks, stated the issue was fixed rapidly and is now being investigated. The number of customers impacted is currently unknown.
Banking apps show other people’s money
Some app users accidentally viewed other customers’ financial information, including payments and wages.
I’ve been able to access someone’s bank account details – they received £6,000 yesterday. I can also see other people’s benefit payments, National Insurance numbers, and where they work – basically, a lot of their personal information.
A Bank of Scotland customer recently shared with the BBC that she could access the account details of six other people within 20 minutes. She saw things like payments made at a Newcastle pub, charges for international card use, and salary payments from a company based in England.
She also noticed that some benefit payments used people’s National Insurance numbers as the reference number, which raised concerns.
“I kept logging out and back in, and every time the details changed,” she said.
Lloyds responds
I was pretty freaked out by the reports online, but Lloyds quickly got back to everyone and reassured us that no one’s accounts had been compromised – nobody had access to anyone else’s stuff, thankfully!
Rest assured, no one accessed your accounts. We’re looking into what happened to prevent this from happening again. Keeping your personal information and account safe is our top priority. – Gillian

Halifax acknowledged that some customers were currently experiencing problems seeing their transaction history and account balances. Bank of Scotland reported they were looking into a technical error.
Hi Ryan,
We’re sorry, but some customers briefly saw incorrect transaction details in Internet Banking and our mobile app this morning. We identified and fixed the problem quickly. (1/2)

This latest issue comes after a similar problem in February 2025, which impacted roughly 1.2 million people across the UK.
