Macaulay Culkin plots Home Alone return and reveals his sequel story idea

Macaulay Culkin is hinting at a possible return to the role of Kevin McCallister, and he’s even come up with an idea for a new ‘Home Alone’ movie. This sequel would be a fresh take, reversing the situation from the original film.

While the original “Home Alone” and its first sequel remain classics, subsequent films in the series haven’t lived up to their success. After “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” the movies moved away from Kevin McCallister’s story, with “Home Alone 3” featuring a completely new protagonist and a plot about hidden nuclear codes. Later efforts to bring back Kevin with different actors were poorly received by audiences.

Now, Culkin says he’d be open to coming back, as long as the script is “just right.”

Macaulay Culkin recently mentioned on his tour, “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,” that he’d be open to reprising his role as Kevin McCallister in a new Home Alone movie. He even has an idea for the plot!

Culkin described a concept he had for a role: a father – either widowed or divorced – who is so focused on working hard and providing for his child that he doesn’t notice his son is upset with him. The story involves the father being locked out of the house, with his son refusing to let him in and even setting traps.

Rather than playing the role of the homeowner defending against burglars, Macaulay Culkin envisioned a scenario where he’s the one trying to avoid the house’s booby traps. He explains that the house itself represents the difficult relationship he has with his father.

So, the main goal with my character is basically earning back his son’s trust and affection. That’s the simplest way to put it, really. I’m not totally opposed to that storyline, actually – it feels like the right direction to take things.

It’s incredible, but when Macaulay Culkin’s children first saw Home Alone, they didn’t realize he was actually in the movie! They only figured it out later when they saw old pictures and understood their dad was the one protecting the house from the burglars.

It’s still uncertain if Macaulay Culkin’s idea will turn into a new Home Alone film, but fans are excited about the chance of a true sequel and seeing the original star back in the role.
