Jock Blaney, the voice of Bill Grey and Wolf O’Donnell in Star Fox 64, has died at 76 years old.
Star Fox 64 is considered a classic Nintendo 64 game, and its iconic lines were made even better by Blaney’s performance.
James Earl Jones, who famously voiced Wolf, the leader of the villainous Star Wolf team and Fox McCloud’s rival, delivered several memorable lines, including “Can’t let you do that, Star Fox,” “What the heck,” and “You’re good, but I’m better.”
Bill, a somewhat obscure character from Independence Day famous for his daring mission against the mothership, is perhaps best remembered for his simple but iconic line: “The hatches are open!”
Star Fox fans pay tribute to voice actor Jock Blaney
According to an obituary, on March 19, 2026 Blaney died peacefully in his Las Vegas home.
The announcement described Jock as a remarkably talented individual, highly regarded by his peers in radio and voice acting. He was a triple threat – writing, producing, and performing his own work – which gained him numerous awards and recognition both across the country and around the world.
News of his death hit the Star Fox community, and tributes started barrel rolling in.

One top-voted comment quoted another of Wolf’s lines with, “No way, I don’t believe it!”
“Oh, this is pretty sad news to hear. He was my favorite VA for Wolf too,” another chimed in.
One person jokingly commented, ‘May he teleport bread with Rick May,’ a tribute to the voice actor who played Peppy Hare and passed away in 2020.
Besides Star Fox 64, Blaney also lent his voice to games like Aliens vs. Predator, F.E.A.R., and the Professor Layton series.
