Ramen-loving grandma buried with her favorite cup noodles as funeral becomes snack tribute

At her funeral, a grandmother was buried with a packet of her beloved instant noodles. Guests were also given a serving as a special way to remember her.

Sandra Burnell, a 72-year-old woman from Newport, Wales, was such a fan of Pot Noodle – a popular UK instant noodle brand – that her family included it in her funeral.

Pot Noodles placed on pews as part of themed funeral

According to the BBC, Burnell’s family honored her love of Beef and Tomato flavored crisps at her funeral by burying her with a cup of them and including the snack in the service.

The memorial service featured photos of her favorite snack, and guests were offered Pot Noodles – either to enjoy during the service or take as a remembrance.

Tracy Burnell explained that her mother was a big fan of Pot Noodles. As a final tribute, the family included some Pot Noodles in her coffin and decorated the memorial program with images of them.

Burnell’s daughter mentioned her mother had really come to love the snack, especially as she got older. After becoming ill, her options for enjoyable treats were limited, so she began having one every night around 9 pm.

She truly adored her friends. I’d sometimes join them, as I was often there, and she loved hosting casual get-togethers where they’d all share a Pot Noodle together, as a fun little treat.

Funerals unexpectedly gaining attention online isn’t new. Back in February, a group of tourists mistakenly wandered into a memorial thinking it was a food spread, but the family surprisingly welcomed them to join the meal.
