Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are a popular on-screen duo, known for movies like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which continued the story from the original Jumanji film from 1995. Their first comedy together is currently a big hit on streaming platforms.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie is now the 7th most popular title on Hulu in the U.S. It’s also performing well on the Apple TV Store in Panama, Slovakia, and Venezuela. This success follows Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart recently reuniting for The Roast of Kevin Hart, which premiered on Netflix on May 10, 2026.
Central Intelligence Is a Hilarious Buddy Action Comedy Film
The movie Central Intelligence features Kevin Hart as Calvin Joyner, nicknamed “Golden Jet,” and Dwayne Johnson as Bob Stone, who also goes by Robbie Weirdicht. Calvin and Robbie were high school classmates. Calvin was a popular athlete, and Robbie was an overweight student who was often picked on. But Calvin stood out because he was one of the few people who helped Robbie when he was being bullied in a particularly nasty prank.
It’s been a few years since college, and I’ve been keeping up with Calvin. He actually married Maggie, his high school sweetheart, which is really sweet. He’s working as a forensic accountant now, but honestly, he seems kind of…unfulfilled. He just doesn’t seem happy with his job. Then, out of the blue, he got a friend request from someone named Bob Stone, and get this – it turned out to be Robbie! Remember Robbie Weirdicht? Well, he’s totally transformed. He’s super fit, muscular, and apparently working for the CIA now. It’s wild!
Robbie enlists Calvin’s help with some online financial tracking, but this quickly pulls Calvin into a dangerous situation involving espionage. Other CIA agents warn Calvin that Robbie is untrustworthy and may have been involved in the death of his previous partner. The film, Central Intelligence, is boosted by the strong comedic pairing of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson.
Central Intelligence Received Mostly Positive Reviews from Critics
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave Central Intelligence a score of 71%, while audiences rated it 62%. Roxana Hadadi of Chesapeake Family Magazine highlighted the strong chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, stating that their combined energy is what makes the movie work.
I recently read a review of Central Intelligence on Shadow and Act by Aramide Tinubu, and they pointed out it’s not quite the same as a classic like 48 Hours. But, if you’re a fan of Kevin Hart’s stand-up or his other movies, you’ll likely have a good time with this one too! It seems a lot of people agree – it has a 6.3 rating on IMDb with nearly 240,000 reviews!
Despite its flaws, the movie is genuinely fun and exciting, largely because of the great comedic pairing of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson. It also marked their first on-screen collaboration, paving the way for other successful comedies like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the funny animated film DC League of Super-Pets.
Central Intelligence is available to stream on Hulu in the United States.
