Whitethorn Games and Ephemera Games have made a demo of their action RPG, Kernel Hearts, available on Steam for PC players. The complete game is expected to launch sometime in 2026.
The game lets up to four players team up for cooperative gameplay, and this feature is already available in the recently released demo. When the full game launches, you’ll also be able to customize your character with chips that boost their abilities, but you’ll have a 256KB limit to work with.
Below you’ll find the official screenshots and details for Kernel Hearts. The game will be fully translated into English, with complete voice acting. Subtitles will also be available in a variety of languages, including French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Japanese, Korean, and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Kernel Hearts is an action RPG with roguelike features that you can play with friends! You’ll join the M.A.H.O.U Unit and ascend the Tower of Babel, battling angels to overthrow God and rescue a world consumed by destruction.
ONE MORE GOD REJECTED
Combine attacks, spells, and movement using special powers each time you play to create powerful combos against your enemies. Team up with up to four friends and punch mythical monsters, finishing each level with a challenging boss battle against the area’s protector.
EQUIP & CUSTOMIZE YOUR UNITS
After every mission, you’ll return to a lab – a memory backup point on the edge of humanity’s final settlement. Use the rewards you earn to unlock and install chips onto your Unit MAHOU.OS, up to a maximum of 256KB, and customize it however you like.
TRANSFORM INTO A MAGICAL GIRL
Use the tower’s power to break the curse, hitting enemies around you with a powerful attack and briefly transforming into your strongest self.
BOND WITH YOUR ALLIES
Interact with the tower’s unique inhabitants and give them gifts to deepen your bond.
