Filming for a potential sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to start later this year. While a fifth movie hasn’t been officially announced, the strong box office performance of the fourth film has led to speculation about a continuation of the series.
Released on July 2, 2025, “Rebirth” was directed by Gareth Edwards and earned approximately $869.1 million worldwide on a budget of $180-225 million. Scarlett Johansson stars in the main role, and the film also features Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein in supporting roles.
Jurassic World Rebirth sequel’s filming window possibly revealed
Sources say production for a fifth Jurassic World movie could start this fall. Daniel RPK, a well-known industry insider, reported this, and previously predicted another film would be made shortly after the release of the last one. He also suggests Scarlett Johansson might reprise her role.
Even before the first film, Rebirth, came out in theaters, people were already talking about a possible sequel. A source named MyTimetoShineHello claimed that Universal Pictures was working on it and hoped to bring back both actress Scarlett Johansson and director Gareth Edwards for the next installment.
In November 2025, Jeff Sneider, a well-connected source in the film industry, reported in his newsletter, TheInsneider, that Universal Pictures was planning to reunite the cast and crew of the previous Jurassic World film for a fifth installment. He stated that director Gareth Edwards was very close to signing on to direct. Sneider also indicated that actors Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey were likely to return as their characters – Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid, and Dr. Henry Loomis – from the previous movie.
EmpireCity Box Office reported that Universal was quickly moving forward with a fifth installment, aiming for a 2027 release, but cautioned it might be delayed to 2028 if production faced challenges.
While a follow-up to Jurassic World Rebirth isn’t officially happening yet, producer Frank Marshall suggests it’s not out of the question. He hinted at the possibility during an interview with Collider, saying they intentionally left the story open for future installments.
In interviews, director Edwards explained he initially considered Rebirth a complete, single film, and a sequel hadn’t been officially planned. Despite this, he didn’t dismiss the idea of a follow-up, hinting to ScreenRant that possibilities existed and telling NBC Insider that he wouldn’t rule anything out.
He also told Collider he’d be keen to see more Jurassic World movies, mentioning there were specific things he personally hoped to see happen in future installments.
