Actor Jason Momoa is set to play the villain Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, a casting choice many DC Comics fans have hoped for. James Gunn’s recent launch of a new DC Universe with Superman has created a lot of excitement, and that’s helping build anticipation for Supergirl as well.
Even though James Gunn isn’t directing the movie, his influence is already strongly felt. The perfect casting of Jason Momoa as Lobo is a great example of his understanding of what fans want – it’s a pairing people have been requesting for years.
Jason Momoa As Lobo Was A Huge Fancast For Years
Fans have wanted Jason Momoa to play Lobo, a well-known villain from the Superman universe, for a long time. There’s a strong resemblance between the two – Lobo is typically depicted with long, dark, wavy hair, a mischievous smile, dark eyes, and a powerfully built physique, all features Momoa shares.
You know, everyone always figured Jason Momoa would never play Lobo – it just seemed too perfect, too obvious! I mean, he’s fantastic at playing those rough-around-the-edges, anti-hero types. Think about Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones or even Dante Reyes in Fast X – he totally nails those roles, and Lobo feels like a natural fit for him.
Why Jason Momoa Is Replacing Aquaman With Lobo
Although Jason Momoa would be a fantastic choice for Lobo, many fans thought it was unlikely to ever happen. He was already committed to a major role in the DC Universe as Aquaman, appearing in Justice League and two dedicated Aquaman movies.
Aquaman wasn’t a small role for the DC Universe; in fact, he was one of their biggest successes before James Gunn took over. Jason Momoa always preferred playing Lobo, stating he’d wanted the part for years (according to ComicBookMovie). While he ended up as Aquaman, Lobo – Superman’s famous rival – has always been his dream role.
How Big Of A Role Will Lobo Have In Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow?
It’s hard to say how important Lobo will be in the Supergirl movie. We’ve seen with other superhero films that even famous actors playing popular characters don’t always have a lot of screen time. So, Lobo might only appear briefly.
Lobo has a complicated relationship with Superman and his allies, often switching between being a foe and an unwilling helper, making him a potential candidate for his own movie. Also cast is Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, a human trafficker who could be the main villain in the upcoming Supergirl film.
