Just days before its release on December 19th, director James Cameron has cautioned movie theaters in a recent letter. Cameron’s Avatar films are known for pushing the boundaries of movie technology, creating an immersive experience that audiences can’t get anywhere but in theaters. The newest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, continues this tradition.
On X, @avatar3news shared a letter from James Cameron to movie theaters. The letter reminded technicians how to set up everything correctly for Avatar: Fire and Ash – things like brightness, sound, and the image on the screen. Cameron asked them to review his instructions to ensure the picture and sound were properly adjusted and ready for viewers.
Cameron explained that he personally handled the audio mixing to ensure the movie sounds its best. He specifically asked viewers not to lower the volume.
The director finished by emphasizing that theater technicians are absolutely essential to ensuring audiences enjoy the movie. They have the last chance to make everything perfect.
Cameron’s letter got a lot of funny reactions online. Many people playfully suggested they’d print it out and show it to staff at their local theaters, just to make sure the director is giving clear instructions.
People jokingly pointed out that Cameron’s letter used the Papyrus font—the same one as the Avatar logo. The sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live even created a famous sketch with Ryan Gosling that parodied the font choice.
