Splash Damage, the British game studio known for games like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and Gears Tactics, is facing difficulties. Like many other game development teams recently, they’ve had to reorganize their staff.
The studio recently announced on LinkedIn that it has started discussions with employees before potential layoffs. This is happening because new private equity investors have taken over and are looking to restructure the company.
We’ve informed our teams that we’re beginning a company-wide consultation that will impact every position. The studio explained this difficult but essential step is needed to adapt to a tough and changing industry.
Splash Damage says they’re committed to retaining their best workers, even though layoffs are expected. This doesn’t necessarily mean the company is failing, though.
Splash Damage, a British game studio, last released Outcasters for Google Stadia. Shortly after, in late 2020, Tencent acquired the studio. Since then, there haven’t been many positive updates, especially after the team cancelled Transformers: Reactivate in January and underwent layoffs. While new investors took over in September with the intention of keeping the current management in place, the studio’s situation hasn’t improved.
