Regardless of your opinion of Donald Trump, he’s always had a strong presence. His sons, however, don’t quite have the same appeal. According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, Amazon Prime Video is thinking about bringing back the reality show The Apprentice. They’ve considered replacing Donald Trump as the host with his son, Donald Trump Jr. The original show helped launch Trump’s popularity, but it’s hard to imagine the reboot having the same effect on Don Jr., given his lack of charisma.
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property,” an Amazon spokesperson said regarding the rumors. “The show is not in active development, and any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.”
Even if the reboot doesn’t happen with Don Jr., the possibility of a new Apprentice series shows Amazon is eager to collaborate with the Trump family. They recently released a documentary about Melania Trump in theaters, which earned $16.7 million despite costing $40 million to make, and they’ve also added previous seasons of The Apprentice to their streaming service. It’s amusing to imagine a different scenario – if Kamala Harris had won the election, perhaps we’d be watching a calmer version of the show hosted by Ella Emhoff, featuring contestants competing in knitting challenges.
