IShowSpeed, xQc, KSI & more urge X to rethink plan to scrap communities

As a big fan of creators like IShowSpeed, I was really worried to hear about X potentially getting rid of community posts. So many of these top creators have built huge, active communities around that feature, and it feels like taking it away would really hurt what they’ve created. A lot of them are speaking up, asking X to reconsider, and I totally agree with them!

Since Elon Musk bought Twitter (now known as X), the platform has seen many changes. On April 22nd, X’s product lead, Nikita Bier, announced that one more change was coming: the Communities feature would be removed.

So, heads up, they’re shutting down X Communities on May 6th. Apparently, not enough of us were using them. But don’t worry, they’re moving everything over to XChat, and they’re boosting the group chat size to 350 people! That’s a big improvement, so hopefully, things will be better over there.

We’re really trying to make X a better place, and that includes giving more power to smaller groups. I’m excited about the new Custom Timelines – it’s a big investment in letting people build their own communities, and honestly, there’s a lot more cool stuff coming down the line!

X is scrapping communities for bigger group chats

However, many popular content creators disliked the decision. IShowSpeed, in particular, strongly encouraged Bier to reconsider.

He expressed his disapproval, explaining that he uses his online community of over 100,000 members to connect with people and didn’t think this was a good course of action.

Bier stated that Speed’s community had an average of only 287 active users in April, but this claim was disputed by many.

I really don’t think this is a good plan. I have a community of over 100,000 people where I can connect with them, and I believe this change would be harmful. I advise against it. 💔

KSI, active on his ‘KSI Twitter’ community page, agreed with Speed and urged people not to do whatever ‘this’ refers to, saying, “Honestly, please don’t do this.”

“Ah man, why would they do this. I really hope they reverse this decision,” he added.

xQc, a popular streamer on Twitch and Kick, advised Bier to reconsider his decision, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the ‘The Jungle’ community. He also stated that the new product is strong and will likely be widely adopted, implying Bier should stay involved.

He explained that Twitter is eliminating the final features that make the platform feel human and allow users to easily distinguish between real people and bots. He believes communities are actually better at managing bots than Twitter’s main feed.

xQc predicted that X would become overrun with bots, to the point where it would be impossible to tell the difference between real users and automated accounts, describing it as a chaotic and unusable place – ‘clanktown’.

Okay, so xQc thinks Twitter, or X now, is getting rid of Communities. His theory is they’re doing it to blur the lines between actual users and bots – basically, to make it harder to tell who’s a real person and who’s not. It’s kinda wild if he’s right!

Several people, like former FaZe player JasonTheWeen, suggested that community members move to Discord to stay connected.

“Goodbye everybody. It’s been real. We must migrate for now,” he told fans.

Hey everyone, sadly it’s time to say goodbye for now. We’re moving to a new platform, so please come join us on Discord! You can also find us on Reddit if you’d like.

The platform has changed plans based on user feedback before, but it’s unclear if they’ll do so in this case.
