Invincible Season 5 Release Window & Major Villain Returns Officially Confirmed

Be aware: this article contains spoilers for the end of Invincible season 4. It’s now been confirmed when Invincible season 5 will arrive, along with the return of two key villains, just one week after the season 4 finale aired.

The fourth season of Invincible ended not with a bang, but with a chilling and somber tone following the destruction of the planet Viltrum. Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible (Steven Yeun), is back on Earth, dealing with the emotional aftermath and worrying about the return of Grand Regent Thragg (Lee Pace) and the remaining Viltrumites. The season closes with Thragg revealing they’ve already arrived on Earth, planning to rebuild, and issuing a terrifying threat: anyone who opposes them will face the destruction of billions.

After leaving fans on a major cliffhanger, the official Invincible social media pages have announced that season 5 is expected to premiere around 2027. They also confirmed that all the voice acting for the new season has already been finished – a detail shared when the show was renewed last year. As for what to expect in the story, Thragg and Dinosaurus (played by Matthew Rhys) will return, but Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will not be appearing. You can find the full announcement below.

The expected 2027 release date for the new season makes sense, considering a new season has been released each year since 2023, following the announcement of season 5 last year. This keeps the show on a yearly schedule, as promised by Robert Kirkman, and avoids the long wait between the first two seasons. Given that seasons 2 through 4 all launched in either February or March, it’s likely season 5 will also be released around the beginning of 2027.

Robert Kirkman has confirmed that Thragg will return in season 5 of Invincible, as he told ScreenRant. Season 4 definitively showed that Mark killed Conquest permanently, a fact now fully confirmed. Some viewers might be surprised to see Dinosaurus return, as he’s only appeared in one episode so far, but he’s a significant character in the Invincible comic book series and will play a key role in the story to come.

Now that details for season 5 are confirmed, everyone’s wondering if the show will be renewed. The creator has said they need between seven and nine seasons to cover all the original material. Because each season takes a long time to produce and the show currently releases new seasons yearly, it would be helpful to know if there will be a season 6 soon.

Most shows tend to decline in quality after a while, but Invincible has consistently received excellent reviews. Critics give it a 99% overall rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 scoring 98%, 100%, 100%, and 100% respectively. Viewers also love the show, giving it a 90% audience score. It’s unusual for a newer show to last for many seasons, but Invincible is expected to continue for even longer than creator Robert Kirkman predicts.

All Invincible seasons 1-4 episodes are streaming on Prime Video.
