In Just 1 Day, Jordan Peele’s 130-Minute Sci-Fi Horror Is Netflix’s No. 7 Movie in America

Okay, let me tell you, even four years after its 2022 release, Jordan Peele is clearly still proud of this film – and rightfully so! It’s become his most successful project, even surpassing the performance of his previous work. It’s a real win for him.

Jordan Peele quickly became a leading creative force in horror, starting with his 2017 debut, the critically praised psychological thriller Get Out, which launched the career of Daniel Kaluuya (known for roles in Black Panther, Get Out, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).

As a fan of both Jordan Peele and Daniel Kaluuya, I wasn’t surprised to see them collaborate again on 2022’s Nope. It marks their third project together, following their successful work on 2018’s BlacKkKlansman, and honestly, it just feels right seeing these two creative forces align again.

Add in the incredible Keke Palmer as a co-star, and the movie quickly became a hit on streaming. By May 2026, it had climbed into the top 10 (reaching number 7) most-watched movies on Netflix, with fans rediscovering its brilliance just a day after its release.

Jordan Peele’s Nope Was a ‘F–king Action’ Horror Film

Daniel Kaluuya told The Grio that his main reason for joining the film Nope was the chance to work with Jordan Peele again. They had many discussions before filming began, and when he arrived on set, he was amazed. He felt the boldest move was to fully commit to the project, leading him to embrace the challenge of playing a character inspired by Bruce Willis.

He explained that he’s passionate about fresh, original stories, and he feels it’s especially meaningful to be making a film like this one – featuring Keke Palmer, himself, and Jordan Peele as director with a significant budget – because it’s an original project. He hopes the film will really resonate with audiences.

The connection was immediately apparent, especially thanks to Steven Yeun’s incredible performance as Ricky “Jupe” Park. Interestingly, his character is filled with references to Peele’s earlier work – specifically, it’s heavily inspired by his character from The Traveler, an episode of his updated Twilight Zone series.

As a movie fan, I was really excited to see how well Jordan Peele’s Nope did! It was a huge success in 2022, making over $170 million at the box office. Even better, it was made for only around $68 million, which is a fantastic return. Plus, critics really seemed to enjoy it – Rotten Tomatoes gave it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with an 83% approval score!

Nope Put Keke Palmer’s Range on Full Display

Interestingly, the film also helped Palmer develop as an actor, earning him high praise from director Jordan Peele, Daniel Kaluuya, and others involved. Both critics and audiences largely agreed on its success.

Daniel Kaluuya told EBONY Magazine he doesn’t usually watch horror films. However, he and director Jordan Peele share a strong creative connection and easily understand each other’s vision for characters. They also challenge each other, which Kaluuya feels is crucial. He believes genuine fear in a scene can’t be rehearsed; it has to be a real reaction to the strange and unsettling situation.

She explained that she was very energetic on set, constantly moving and trying to embody the intense adrenaline her character, Emerald, experiences in the final twenty minutes of the film. She felt like she had the same boundless energy as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Even after almost five years, this film is still fantastic and deserves multiple viewings. If you haven’t seen it yet, now is the perfect time to give it a try – you won’t regret it!
