Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received a big update (version 3.0) coinciding with the release of the game on the new Switch 2 console! One of the coolest new features is the megaphone – an item only available on the Switch 2 – which makes it much easier to find your villagers around the island. This guide will show you how to get the megaphone and use it in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch 2.
Don’t miss out on everything new in the 3.0 update! We also have a complete guide to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to help you get the most out of your island, with tips for beginners and information on expanding your island’s facilities.
How to get the megaphone
As a huge Animal Crossing fan, I was so excited to hear about the megaphone! But it’s a bit of a bummer that it’s only available on the new Switch 2. If you’ve got the updated console, you can snag one at Nook’s Cranny – just check the shop cabinet and it’ll cost you 3,500 Bells. Sadly, if you’re still playing on the original Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED, this item isn’t for you.
Good news! If you’re upgrading to the new version of the game on the Switch 2, you don’t need to start a new island. We have a complete guide on how to transfer your Animal Crossing island to the Switch 2 using the free island transfer tool, available for download in the Nintendo eShop.
How to use the megaphone
After you buy a megaphone, simply choose it from your items to use it. Then, hold down the A button to activate the megaphone. Say a resident’s name while holding A, and the Switch 2’s microphone will pick up your voice, prompting a response from that resident.
The on-screen chat window will show you where each resident is headed. Just follow the messages to quickly find them, as they can sometimes be hard to locate otherwise. This feature also works for visitors like Resetti, who now cleans your island as part of the 3.0 update.
