Megabonk, a recent popular indie game on Steam, provides hours of fun. It’s easy to pick up and play, but surprisingly addictive, with lots of items to collect. Plus, players who enjoy earning achievements will find over 100 to unlock – some are quick wins, while others offer a real challenge. We recently covered another aspect of the game, Kevin. Now, let’s discuss the most difficult achievement to obtain: Cactus.

How to unlock Cactus in Megabonk?

Cactus is notoriously difficult to obtain, largely due to the way its defensive ability, Thorns, works. Thorns damages enemies that attack you – a straightforward concept. While seemingly simple, actually getting Cactus is surprisingly complicated. Players often find Thorns isn’t a very effective way to defeat enemies, and it takes a significant amount of effort to acquire. First, you need access to the Tier 1 Desert map while playing on Hyper mode.

You need to unlock Thorns Tome to deal with the correct type of damage. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In the first place you must unlock weapon called Aegis. You will do this when you block 500 damages while playing as Sir Oofie.
  2. Later, you must use Aegis to block 250 attacks.

Once you’ve unlocked the Thorns Tome, you can begin working towards the Cactus achievement. Before you do, it’s a good idea to get Toggler, which you can buy in the shop after collecting at least 40 different items, tomes, and weapons. Toggler allows you to turn off any items, weapons, or tomes you don’t need while you’re playing.

Before going to the Desert, only leave the Thorns, Armor, and Shield tomes. For your weapon, take the shotgun. When choosing items, focus on those that restore health with Lifesteal and Regeneration. Don’t take anything that boosts Evasion, as it will reduce the effectiveness of Thorns’ damage.

You get to pick your character, and Calcium, Monkey, or Bush are good options to start with. Early on, it’s best to steer clear of Cactus enemies and quickly grab the Thorns Tome. Level it up a little, and then you’ll be able to easily defeat the 100 Cactuses. Have fun!
